A man who spiked candy with sleeping medication and distributed them to youngsters at a summer camp in the area has confessed to sexual offences against two boys aged nine and 10.
The accused was detained after eight children and a grown-up experienced illness at Stathern Lodge in mid-summer.
The 76-year-old, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, confessed to a multiple criminal counts when he was present at the judicial center on Friday.
Nevertheless, he denied a single sexual charge he was facing, which was involving a nine-year-old child.
The defendant was held in detention prior to a additional proceeding on 28 November.
'Treat game'
The legal representative, prosecuting, detailed the defendant's actions to the legal proceedings.
She said his those affected were disadvantaged youngsters who were staying at a summer camp which he operated.
The man conducted a "treat game" with the minors, the prosecutor said, in which he would enter the boys' rooms when they were settling down and ask them to consume candy "as quickly as they can".
She told the court the defendant had engaged in this activity with the children "for many years", and minors had previously fallen ill the subsequent day.
She stated the man had been capable of justifying this over a long period as the youngsters being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his family member had worries in summer 2025.
Mrs Prior KC continued: "Recently" his family member had worries about the activities, justifiably.
"They chose" to have a look in the man's possessions."
The legal counsel stated items including lubricant, ointment and medical needles were found, and his stepson contacted the police about his suspicions.
She said the defendant proceeded to engage in the "candy game" with six youngsters that night - Saturday 26 July - and they were all ill the subsequent day.
"Law enforcement" had not responded by that point," she stated further.
The police watchdog, the investigative body, had stated that it was reviewing law enforcement's management of the situation.
The prosecutor explained the children were unable to walk properly due to being ill, so Ruben's stepson contacted the police a second time.
She explained the defendant then engaged in the "candy game" in a room of five minors.
