Nineteen of Medvedev's twenty-one titles have been earned on hardcourt
A resurgent Daniil Medvedev won his first trophy for over two years with victory over opponent Moutet in the competition championship match.
The athlete, a former number one, has experienced a difficult period, managing just one win at the Grand Slams and experiencing a meltdown at the US Open.
Medvedev's varied form on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his serve in particular - led to him falling of the top ten and ultimately splitting with long-time coach Gilles Cervara.
Presently working with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has consistently improved in the last few weeks - climaxing in a tightly fought competitive triumph over challenger Moutet.
It is Medvedev's initial trophy after the 2023 Rome Masters and initial on a hard surface since spring of 2023.
The win also signifies the Russian has secured 21 titles at twenty-one distinct tournaments.
"This marks the first occasion I'm at a event with my two daughters at once, so to win a trophy is really nice," commented ranked player Daniil Medvedev.
"This championship is in dedication of my child Victoria, because the initial championship I got when my child Alisa was delivered was for her."
The tennis star, the former major winner, had failed in his past six title deciders, including in the German tournament previously this season.
Medvedev's counter-punching approach and recurring outbursts on the playing surface had caused some to wonder if his skill to play at the highest level was over.
However the 29-year-old has made changes in the past month, striving to come to the net and play positively, reinforced by an improved service.
He came back from a break down in the first set against the tricky Frenchman, taking 4 of the last five points to go ahead.
The pair exchanged break points in the second set before Moutet, bidding for his maiden ATP Tour title, took control to force a decider.
He rescued four early-game chances in a close final set before Medvedev secured a break to that score to secure the win.
Appropriately, he secured the title with a rally at the net area, with Moutet failing to manage a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
